The Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) detects very faint objects that could ultimately threaten the Earth. Plans include the re-use of the existing site of the UH 2.2m observatory at Mauna Kea Science Reserve. G70 prepared a NEPA Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). G70 engaged Hawaiian community consultants, followed Native Hawaiian protocols at all steps in the EIS process, and integrated Native Hawaiian cultural values in the discussion of project concepts, community dialogue, facility planning, and decision making.
