PBN’s Sustainability Roundtable brought nine industry leaders to our offices on Jan. 23, representing schools, landowners, venture capital, architecture, alternative energy and small business. For more than two hours — the conversation was so interesting, everyone happily stayed past the appointed time — they shared what their organizations have done to foster sustainability in the Islands. They also touched on hot-button issues, such as the NextEra Energy acquisition of Hawaiian Electric Industries, and the need for business to stop seeing sustainability as something that must be balanced against profit. Here are the highlights of that discussion.
