Honolulu’s Group 70 International opens office in Indonesia as part of Asian expansion

Group 70 International Inc., one of the largest architecture firms in Hawaii, has opened a new office in Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of its international expansion into Asian markets, the Honolulu-based company said Friday.

The new office is in partnership with PT. Sentul City, Tbk., an Indonesia-based property development and management company. The new firm — PT Group Seventy Asia — offers architectural and planning services.

“The opening of the Jakarta office allows us to better service our growing Asian clientele, while remaining steadfast in our commitment to local projects,” said Charles Kaneshiro, president of Group 70, in a statement.

PT Group Seventy Asia currently employs six people, led by Tobin Halim, project manager for Group 70, and Francis Oda, chairman of the company.

“We are collaborating with PT. Sentul City, Tbk. on several large urban planning projects, so the partnership was a natural next step in the business relationship,” Halim, who originally hails from Indonesia, said in a statement. “We share very similar design philosophies centered on elevating quality of life through design that harmonizes with the natural environment.”

Group 70 is the second-largest architecture firm in Hawaii, with $20.9 million in 2014 billings, according to PBN research.
