G70 worked with Kamehameha Schools to develop a Plan for 26,000 acres on O‘ahu’s North Shore. The planning process successfully engaged the North Shore residents through small group sessions, workshops, survey, youth forums and a project website, which created a high level of community investment in the Plan. The extensive analysis and selection of projects utilized Kamehameha Schools Five Values and resulted in plans to pursue projects that support the restoration of key wahi pana as part of the Plan’s vision of a sustainable future. A key component of the plan included a cultural asset inventory within the region. The plan won the American Planning Association Hawai‘i Chapter 2008 Outstanding Planning Award and the 2011 National Planning Excellence Award for Innovation in Sustainable Places.
