‘Iolani School Residence Hall

Honolulu, O‘ahu

Located in the center of 'Iolani School’s campus, the new five-story dormitory houses students in Grades 9-12. It consists of four multi-bedroom faculty apartments on the first floor and 14 dorm units per floor on the four upper floors. The dorm units are arranged around an alcove promoting interactions between students, while also capturing panoramic views of Diamond Head and Waikiki. Home to 112 students, each typical floor provides a shared bathroom, common area with kitchenette and a study room, while the ground floor offers a sundry, kitchenette, laundry and a large gathering area for informal meetings. The Residence Hall was shaped in an “L” to sensitively wrap around an existing Monkeypod tree, subsequently creating an intimate courtyard space, which eventually opens up towards the center of campus for all students to enjoy.
