Paul T. Matsuda, P.E., LEED AP is a principal of G70 and the director of its civil engineering division. With more than 29 years of experience, Paul was recruited to join the firm in 2011 to help build and develop the company’s new civil engineering division. Paul is versed in a wide variety of site development, transportation and utility infrastructure projects throughout Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest, and his leadership has been fundamental in the engineering division’s growth and success.
As the director of civil engineering, he is responsible for leading and managing a team of 18 engineers and designers. Paul is responsible for management and delivery of the firm’s site development and public sector projects, including commercial, industrial, residential and educational site development, and transportation and utility infrastructure throughout the state, country, and internationally.
Paul has worked on many high-profile projects throughout his career and is recognized locally for his work on Kamehameha Schools’ Haleiwa Store Lots, Kihei High School, HART – Dillingham-Kaka‘ako Station Group, Saddle Road on the Big Island, DR Horton’s Kahiwelo Residential Subdivision, SunEdison’s utility scale solar farms on Oahu, and Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union, to name a few.
Prior to joining G70, Paul was employed with Okahara and Associates, Gray Hong Nojima, Harper Houf Peterson Righellis in Oregon, and other respected engineering firms where his notable projects included Lake Oswego High School, various Clark County, Washington transportation projects, and Marylhurst University Master Plan, among others.
Paul is committed to mentoring emerging company- and industry-wide professionals, constantly challenging them to “think outside the box.” He also dedicates his time to community and industry organizations as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers – Hawai‘i Section, American Water Works Association – Hawai‘i Section, U.S. Green Building Council – Hawai‘i Chapter, and Honolulu Habitat for Humanity (2008 – 2010 Building Committee Chair, Board Member). In 2011, Paul was awarded the Fran Brossy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Honolulu Habitat for Humanity and is a 2009 alumnus of Pacific Business News’ Forty under 40.
The Hilo native and Manoa resident received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Washington and is a licensed professional in Oregon, Washington and Hawai‘i. When the natural problem solver isn’t busy working on solutions to build a better mouse trap, he enjoys spending time with his two young sons and coaching their sports teams.
