Hilton Breaks Ground on New Grand Islander Timeshare Tower

A new tower is going up at Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The hotel broke ground Tuesday on a timeshare complex called the Grand Islander.

The 37-story, 418-unit tower is being built adjacent to Tapa Tower at the corner of Kalia Rd. and Paoa Pl.

“It’s worth saying how much this investment will help the local economy,” said Tyler Henritze, senior managing director at Blackstone, the real estate investment company funding the tower’s construction. “The Grand Islander project will create more than 1,000 jobs, bring in tax revenue and contribute over $2 billion to the tourist sector over the next 20 years.”

The Grand Islander will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and penthouses, with amenities including full kitchens, dining areas and private bedrooms.

The project is designed by Honolulu-based Group 70 International and will include a vertical glass curtain wall on its main façade, a living green wall along Kalia Rd. and cantilevered trellises.

Construction is expected to be completed by early 2017.
