Francis Oda of Group 70 International named Hawaii Business Leader of the Year

Francis Oda, who helped build Group 70 International into one of Hawaii’s largest and most important architecture firms, was named the American Savings Bank Business Leader of the Year at PBN’s annual Business Leadership Hawaii recognition awards gala Thursday night at the Sheraton Waikiki.

The Cades Schutte -The Cades Foundation Nonprofit Leadership award went to Kahumana Community/ASI, a nonprofit community service organization and organic farm in Waianae.

Castle Medical Center in Kailua was the winner of the Best in Business award for companies with more than 40 full-time employees, while Honolulu-based CW Associates, CPAs, was the winner of the Best in Small Business award for companies with up to 40 full-time employees.

The Battleship Missouri Memorial, which developed a strategy to overcome the federal sequestration cuts that shut down other Pearl Harbor visitor attractions last year, was the winner of the Leader in Tourism award.

And Group 70 International, which has made sustainability integral to its designs for clients and the way its own employees work, was the winner of the inaugural Leaders in Sustainability award.

Allen B. Uyeda, who retired as CEO of First Insurance Company of Hawaii Ltd. earlier this year, was honored with the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award.
