Construction on the new Residence Inn by Marriott hotel in Kapolei in West Oahu could begin as early as in August, an executive with the development team confirmed to Pacific Business News.
The hotel will be the third one of its kind for West Oahu, joining the Embassy Suites, which is under construction and expected to be done by this fall, and the recently completed Hampton Inn & Suites hotel at the Ka Makana Alii shopping mall in East Kapolei.
Kapolei Hotel Partners II LLC, a joint venture of Anico Eagle LLC and TGC Kapolei Hotel Partners II LLC, of which Utah-based Western States Lodging III LLC is a member, is buying a site at the intersection of Kapolei Parkway and Fort Barrette Road near the University of Hawaii West Oahu campus that’s within the 40-acre Leihano mixed-use development next to the Ilima assisted-living facility, as first reported by PBN.
David Webster, a partner in the lodging division of Western States Lodging, told PBN that G70, formerly known as Group 70 International Inc., is the architect for the project, while Layton Construction is likely to be the general contractor.
The same duo is working on Western States Lodging’s Embassy Suites by Hilton hotel that’s also located within Leihano. Construction on this project began in late 2015 with plans to complete the new 180-room hotel by October.
California-based R.D. Olson Development once planned to build a 150-room Marriott Residence Inn in Kapolei on a 3.5-acre site near the Kapolei Judiciary Complex at the corner of Kapolei Parkway and Kealakapu Road. In 2015, the developer scrapped plans for the project mainly because of high construction costs, as first reported by PBN.
