The planned 180-room Residence Inn by Marriott hotel in Kapolei in West Oahu will be geared for families, with more beds and kitchens in its rooms, according to public documents.
Jim Stone and Tracy Camuso, both of Honolulu-based G70, formerly Group 70 International, which is designing the project, presented plans to the Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board last month, revealing more details about the project.
The new Marriott Residence Inn, which will be located within the 40-acre Leihano mixed-use development, will encompass a total of 140,000 square feet, according to minutes from that meeting.
There will be no restaurant or bar at the hotel, but there will be an outdoor events area and a pool.
The project, which was first reported by Pacific Business News, will include 180 parking stalls.
Stone said that there is enough demand for such a project, including from military government agencies in the area looking for longer business stays and youth sports teams from the Neighbor Islands. The hotel could also attracted out-of-state visitors no longer wishing to stay in the Waikiki area.
The Residence Inn is expected to employ up to 100 people, according to Stone, which also said that the ground floor of it will likely have a convenience store.
Construction on the project could begin as early as in August.
The city’s Department of Planning and Permitting is holding a public hearing regarding this proposed hotel on May 26 in Honolulu.
