HONOLULU – G70+ is the newest venture of the Hawaii based design firm. The entity, a wholly owned subsidiary of G70, will include all overseas projects primarily in Tahiti, French Polynesia, and Mauritius, with plans to expand to other areas. Services will include architecture, planning and interior design.
G70 Principal Craig Takahata and Chairman Emeritus Francis S. Oda conceptualized a global team of design specialists working together. “Our expertise in G70+, and our technical architectural group in Indonesia, collaborate with a team of highly experienced consultants with international completed projects in urban mixed-use and hospitality,” said Takahata. “Technology is expediting and redefining this fresh approach to practice.”
Oda views this as a pilot studio to the future of the firm. “We won’t have a need to build huge offices. Instead, team members will work to partner with a strong international team of design consultants operating collaboratively under G70+ for overseas project pursuits in various regions” he said. “Out of the garage came iTunes and iPod, but they had to do all of this outside of Apple. Our vision is similar, to provide proof of concept that could change the way the office practices.”
This announcement of the new entity includes the following leadership:
- Francis Oda, D. Arch., FAIA, LEED AP, is stepping down from his position of Chairman and is now Chairman Emeritus at G70. During his decades with G70, he engaged in projects locally and abroad that encompass tourism, housing, recreation, commercial centers, natural resource management, historic preservation and sustainability. Oda coined the term “kama‘aina architecture” — referring to the architecture of the early 20th Century in Hawai‘i where he uniquely linked architecture with the natural beauty of the islands. Through his passion for the architecture industry, Oda worked tirelessly with the University of Hawai‘i to develop the Doctor of Architecture program. Oda will continue to work on a variety of projects such as Tahiti, Mauritius and Ko Olina as he launches G70+.
- Sheryl B. Seaman, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP, COO of G70+. Seaman has more than four decades of experience in architectural interior design for both new construction and renovations with award-winning projects throughout Hawai‘i, Japan and the Pacific Rim. In 1982, she became Hawai‘i’s first female president of an architectural firm, making G70 the largest firm in the country led by a woman president.
- Craig Takahata, AIA, CEO of G70+. Takahata is a principal and senior project designer at G70 with more than 25 years of global experience and expertise in hospitality design. He has led a number of major hotel, resort, office, commercial, residential, retail, mixed-use and master planning projects throughout the Pacific Rim, United States and Asia. His notable projects include the Indonesia Innovation City Sentul mixed-use project, Serpong Natura Master Plan and Mahana Bay Resort development.
